NSW: New Supreme Court Judge appointed
SYDNEY, Dec 20 AAP - The former head of the Sydney Water Inquiry will be appointed
as a Judge of the New South Wales Supreme Court, the state government announced today.
Peter David McClellan, QC, will take up his appointment on the bench on January 30,
2001, said Attorney-General Bob Debus.
Mr McClellan also was Counsel Assisting the Maralinga Royal Commission into British
Nuclear Tests in Australia from 1984-85.
He served as Assistant Commissioner of the Independent Commission Against Corruption
(ICAC) from 1992-93 and was appointed to supervise the statutory review of the Sydney
Casino Licence in 1997.
The Sydney Water Inquiry investigated the 1998 contamination of the city's water supply
which forced health authorities to issue boil water alerts for three months.
