MARRIAGE MAY BE GOOD FOR HEALTH - LITERALLY.(Living Today)

The virtues of being single are well- known: You're free to come and go as you please and don't have to account for your whereabouts at suppertime; you can squeeze the toothpaste tube in the middle and can stay in the shower until the water heater runs dry; no one hogs the blankets at night or argues about which television channel to watch; there are no surprises when the charge statements arrive at the end of the month.

Call those benefits the soft side of being single. Because in the hard light of medical science, living alone should come with a disclaimer.

WARNING: Bachelorhood may be hazardous to your health.

A growing body of scientific research suggests that married people live longer, healthier lives than their single counterparts.

One analysis of federal health surveys suggests that divorced and separated people are the sickest; widowed people are somewhat healthier, followed by single people. Married people are the healthiest of all.
