NATIONAL GUARD COMMANDER TO GET BROADCASTERS' AWARD.(Local)

Maj. Gen. Lawrence P. Flynn, state adjutant general and commander of the state Army National Guard, will be named the New York State Broadcasters Association "Communicator of the Year - 1991" at the association's 30th executive conference today.

Flynn will be honored for keeping open the lines of communication between the New York State Militia and the state's news media.

In addition, Flynn and Brig. Gen. Michael S. Hall, commander of the New York Air National Guard's 174th Tactical Fighter Wing in Syracuse, will accept the association's "New Yorkers of the Year Award" on behalf of the estimated 25,000 state residents who served with all the armed services in Operation Desert Storm in the Persian Gulf region.

The awards are to be presented during a dinner at the Gideon Putnam Hotel. The award celebration will include a special salute to all the troops who served in the Persian Gulf war.
